| CyberWeb Innovates the Web for Small Hotel Owners
Thousands of hotel owners and small business owners are not able to use the internet and search engines to their advantage. Most small hotel owners make 10 to 15 % of their revenue as the gross profit after grueling hard-work, taking risks for mortgage payment, handling irate guests and paying franchisee fees. Whereas big travel portals make 10 % just by picking up visitors from Google and send it to the hotels. Expedia gets millions of visitors and generates billions of dollars in revenue without owning a single hotel! There was no way of beating travel portals such as expedia.com until now…Cyberweb Hotels has launched SmartSELL -- a comprehensive all-inclusive travel package that contains website design, hosting, search engine optimization, online reservation panel and Internet brand protection that helps hotel owners to sell more rooms.
Shatner miffed he won't be in 'Star Trek'
U.S. actor William Shatner, who played Capt. James T. Kirk for decades on TV and in movies, is unhappy he won't be appearing in the new "Star Trek" prequel. "How could you not put one of the founding figures into a movie that was being resurrected? That doesn't make good business sense to me," Shatner told "Extra." "Alias" and "Lost" mastermind J.J. Abrams is directing the new film about the early days of the crew of the USS Enterprise. While Abrams reportedly offered a small role in the film to Leonrad Nimoy, who played Spock for years in the franchise, the director hasn't asked Shatner to do so much as a cameo, the New York Daily News said. Shatner, who now stars on the TV series, "Boston Legal," said he expected the film to be a blockbuster -- even if he is not in it. "It'll be a wonderful film," he told "Extra." // Copyright 2007 by United Press International Publication date: 23 November 2007 Source: Archive .

Asterisk steals a march in open IP
OPEN source is gaining traction in the voice over internet protocol arena. Even though industry researchers such as The Yankee Group say VoIP is too early in its development cycle to be properly open-sourced, vendors are launching products. Already there are a number of open source VoIP applications, such as FreeSwitch, OpenSER and YATE, that turn a computer into an IP PABX. However, the most widely deployed is Asterisk, which was developed as far back as 1999. Just one month after its acquisition of Switchvox, a provider of IP PBX phone systems for small and medium businesses, Digium announced the availability of Switchvox Free Edition. The new product is based on Asterisk, open-source telephone software created and owned by Digium.
Committee eyes April ballot for new charter proposal
Is it right for a Ferguson councilman to ask any city employee to do something? How long should the term of office be for an elected official? Should Ferguson have a "mayor" or a "councilman at large"?These were some of the questions a small group of volunteers grappled with last week as they met in the Vogt Elementary School library. The session was the latest in what has become a regular Thursday night get-together for these six people.Their business is serious. The city's Charter Review Committee, which the city council appointed this year, is developing a blueprint for how Ferguson will be governed in the future. It's not a quick process."This is the fifth or sixth week we've met," said local attorney Charles James, who is chairing the committee. "The last charter review (in 1998) took about 20 weeks."James and other members last week said it's unlikely they would get their work done in time for a new city charter proposal on the February 2008 election ballot.Instead, they're shooting to have their recommendations finished and a measure on the ballot in April.During the meeting, James, along with John Knowles, a member of the Ferguson-Florissant Board of Education; Cathy Dahmer, a local activist; and former council members John Corson, Tom Wolf and James Knowles Jr.
