‘Inspirations of the Season’

This week’s cover for Celebrations, our holiday leisure supplement, is the first of six works of art by area artists commissioned by The River Reporter for the holidays. The works will be part of an exhibit, “Inspirations of the Season,” at Narrowsburg Roasters on Main Street in Narrowsburg, NY, and will be sold via silent auction, with bids accepted throughout the holiday season and the proceeds to go to the local charity of the artists’ choice. Every week from now through December 27, a new work will appear on the cover of Celebrations, and be added to the exhibit at Roasters. Celebrations will also feature a story on the artist, like this week’s story on David Soete, the inaugural artist, on this page.

You may bid on the artworks at Roasters, located at 17 Main Street, by filling in your name, phone number and email if available, and the amount of your bid on bid sheets provided at the store.

AS the peso-dollar exchange remains volatile, many small and medium export companies have been discouraged from taking advantage of different hedging facilities offered by several banking institutions, an industry official said.

Former Cebu Furniture Industries Foundation (CFIF) president Michael Basubas said it is difficult for small and medium export companies to hedge as the foreign exchange market remains very volatile.

He said many exporters also do not have clear orders for the next few months from buyers.

Hedging is a strategy designed to minimize exposure to an unwanted business risk while still allowing the business to profit from an investment activity.

A currency hedging program refers to a side investment that is taken out specifically to reduce or cancel out the risk associated with exposure to certain currencies.

Ex-convict appeals to inmates' hopes for freedom

The key is supposed to be a legal argument, developed by employee Tony Davis, that claims the federal criminal code is invalid because Congress botched key legislation during the Truman administration.
